Pros and Cons of AOL

In My Opinion

I have many artists who have AOL they continually contact me saying they can't see changes in the page. When I told them to go to edit and refresh the page they had no idea what I was talking about.  Thus I am writing this for them and others who haven't chosen AOL as their provider or internet browser.

Cons of AOL or reasons I don't care for them.

  • Pricing
  • Service
  • Ease of use.

We will take these one at a time

Pricing:  AOL gets your attention by offering you free minutes to use their service. Then when they get you, it is almost next to impossible to get rid of them. Heaven forbid you gave them you credit card number for they will continue to bill you long after you have dismantled them. Their service usually runs about $24.95 a month for regular dialup. They also offer an accelerator to get the most speed from a dial up. I believe it is $4.95 a month. This is a total rip off. You can get (or at least most people) Earthlink dial up for Annual plan$167.40 ($13.95/mo. for one year)**

It is now $9.95 for the first six months and then goes to $21.95 or you can purchase the annual plan which then is $13.95. They also have high speed dsl for $12.95 for the first six months. You may wish to contact them here is the url http://www.earthlink.net/ Earthlink was rated as the No.1 dial up in the US by PC Magazine and others.

SERVICE: I have had many of my artist complain that when they try and get rid of AOL they are continually billed and it take almost forever to get them to cease and desist. They have also told me it is almost impossible to get all the remnants of AOL off their machine. So Much for the service.

EASE of USE: Well if you can't find a way easily to refresh your browser or to put in your url something is wrong with this picture. I have three browsers MSIE ( Microsoft IE 6.0) Netscape, and Mozilla. ON Mozilla there is a clear place to put your url. On Microsoft it is called and address wow who would have thunk it. On Netscape it is also a clear place. I have never used an AOL Browser so I am not sure what it is on there I can only say by what I have been told.
